New England Fall Scenes

New England at this time of year is always full of seasonal splendor - earthy colors, lush textures and crisp weather. Had the pleasure of spending the weekend with friends and family in Marblehead and Hamilton, Massachussetts - two elegant, old towns up North. Enjoy some of my photo memories. Can you see the white swans in the below pond?! If you click on the image to enlarge, you will spot them. My friend, Trina, with one of the pet donkeys at her farm. Oh-so-cute!

Inspired by William Kamkwamba

Heavenly Hydrangeas Floral Design was inspired by the amazing story of a young Malawian who, at age 14, built a windmill for electricity for his village. William Kamkwamba had to drop out of school due to famine in Malawi but was not deterred from his studies. He taught himself physics from diagrams (as he did not know English) in books borrowed from a nearby village library. He then managed to build a windmill from found materials (sandals, bicycle wheels, old wires) which lit the first lightbulb in his village. His extraordinary journey is chronicled in his book, The Boy Who Harnassed the Wind - which I highly recommend. You can also read about him on his website, www.WilliamKamkwamba.com

Summer Splendor

Heavenly Hydrangeas has designed several elegant and colorful arrangements for various summer events. The long, low arrangement pictured below was one of three in an ensemble that graced a 22' long table at a Supreme Court dinner. The white hydrangeas set off beautifully the green parrot tulips, cream roses, yellow cymbidium orchids and the element of surprise - the artichokes. Classic with a twist. The below monochromatic white design was a wedding sample that made the future bride very happy. She loves the simple elegance of all white as do we. Enjoy.
